Dub n sladkov. Martha Jane Cleland Martha Jane Cleland, 90, of Portersville died Thursday at Passavant Retirement Center following a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 4, 1921, and was the youngest child of the late Scott and Zelda (Zeigler) Cleland. Born and raised on the 200-year family farm in Muddy Creek Township, Portersville, Martha worked beside her brother, Robert J.
Cleland, on the farm. She managed Curtis China Shop in Portersville and subsequently clerked in the Butler County Treasurer's office. She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and pastry cook. Martha was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Portersville where she taught Sunday school, participated in Presbyterian Women and served as mission treasurer for many years.
She is remembered by cousins, Mary Lyn Zeigler (Norman) Newell, Glenn Weller and Melvin Weller; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Martha will be remembered by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice (Howard) Glenn and Elizabeth (Robert) Leslie; and two brothers, Loyal (Edith) Cleland and Robert (Virginia) Cleland.
